Next up in our Smoke Breaks-series is Belarusian producer Awlnight. The Minsk native began creating instrumentals for his own rap crew back in 2005, but started to focus solely on beats a couple of years later. A good move, because Awl's output has gained critical acclaim ever since: his debut album 'SpaceTime' was released by A-HU-LI in 2009, he got to participate in numerous beat battles in his home country and to collaborate with fellow Belarusians as well as with producers hailing from Russia, Lithuania, Ukraine, Italy, USA, Japan and even Chinese Taipei. He also performed on stages in Moscow, Tallinn, Vilnius, Ljubljana and Frankfurt, and was crowned 'Belarus' Best Beatmaker' at the Street Awards Festival in 2012.
Armed with two samplers, four synths, a pair of turntables, a drum machine and two tape cassette decks, Awlnight released music for Ezhevika ('Next Stage', 'Dmitry Chaykin'), Fuzzoscope ('Purple Eighties') and Inner Ocean ('Hypnotized' and the recent 'Koolinout').
