Sunday Soulschool: Trevor Dandy - Is There Any Love?

I'm not quite fond of religion - and that's an understatement - but since today is Easter, this seems like a right occasion to share some music by and for Jesus-lovers... The amazing 'Is There Any Love?' was written and sung by Jamaican-born artist Trevor Dandy and produced and arranged by Toronto-based composer Paul Zaza for Zaza Records. It features Judy Tate (backing vocals), Jack Zaza (flute), Lillian Nicholoff (strings), Dave Brown (drums) and Paul Zaza (piano, electric piano, bass, conga, organ). 'Is There Any Love?' is the best cut on Dandy's only release, 1970's 'Don't Cry Little Tree' - a record commissioned by Dandy's congregation and pressed in a quantity of 2000 copies. However, after a dispute with the church, a good number of those copies ended up at the dump. A damn shame, but thankfully Numero Group decided to reissue the track back in 2009 and again last year. Its massive drum break and beautiful harmony proved to be excellent sample fodder and were used by the likes of Ghostface Killah, Kid Cudi and Common. Give 'Is There Any Love?' a spin below, enjoy!
