On their latest album 'Yol', Anatolian rock and folk revivalists Altin Gün lace their songs with a huge dose of synth-pop and electronica. The combination of melancholic traditional Turkish folk songs and spaced-out synths and drum machines might look ridiculous on paper, but in reality, it's a perfect match: the nouveau disco production and wistful folk melodies perfectly complement each other...
Album highlights include the nebulous 'Odrunun Dereleri', the deceitfully joyful 'Bulunur Mu', the funky 'Hey Nari' and 'Kara Toprak', the reggae-tinged 'Yüce Dağ Başında' and the psychedelic 'Sevda Olmasaydi'.
This pandemic thing might give us enough time to learn the lyrics by heart, but we do hope we all get our vaccines soon so Altin Gün can go out and play these tracks live...
