Sunday Soulschool: 100% Pure Poison - Windy C

100% Pure Poison was a band of American millitary men stationed in Germany in the early 70s, consisting of Danny Leake (guitar), Jackie Beard (saxophone, vocals), James Wells (vocals), James Williams (keys, guitar), Marvin Daniels (trumpet, vocals), Pie Harrison (vocals), Slide Beard (trombone, vocals) and Rick Hartung (production).
The sole reason for listening to their 1974 album 'Coming Right at You' is the irresistible 'Windy C', a laidback groovy jazz-funk staple lameting the hard urban life in the funkiest of ways. The movie scene-like intro and interpolations, the addictive bass (nicked by St. Germain for his hit 'Sure Thing'), the guitar solo breaks, the impressive horn arrangements, the bluesy harmonica, that little bit of scat at the end: it seems like they've crammed all of their best ideas into one perfect track, and we should thank them for that... Enjoy!
