These last days, I've been enjoying 'Yesterday's Gone' - the debut album of 21-year old British rapper Loyle Carner. On earlier work like 2015's 'A Little Late' and cameo's on friends' projects (Tom Misch's 'Crazy Dream') the youngster showed lots of promise, and I'm very glad to see he continues to deliver on his official debut. As a rap album, 'Yesterday's Gone' is quite refreshing: it shows Carner as an open and honest artist who isn't afraid to publicly share his doubts and worries ('The Isle of Arran', 'The Seamstress'), nor does he shy away from showing his emotional side when talking about friends and family ('Florence', 'Sun of Jean') - a rare feat for young emcees. This very personal approach also pays off on tracks like 'Ain't Nothing Changed', 'No Worries' or 'No CD', where Carner manages to be both witty and humble. Everything about this album makes you feel the young Croydon-native is wise beyond his years; no doubt we'll see plenty more of this cat in the future... Give 'Yesterday's Gone' a listen below, enjoy!
