Earlier this week, soul legend Bobby Womack passed away at the age of 70. Although I wasn't too crazy about his last record - Richard Russell's productions did not do Womack's vocal skills justice - it cannot be denied the man left behind an impressive body of work. Having started out in a band with his brothers in the early 50s, it wasn't until the late 60s that he started making a name for himself as a singer and a musician (Womack played guitar on Sly & The Family Stone's classic 'There's A Riot Goin' On'). The song he will be remembered for is of course the fantastic 'Across 110th Street', the theme of the 1973 blaxploitation film with the same name. Enjoy the song below and make sure to look for a copy of the Yaphet Kotto-starring movie, it's definitely worth watching. Thank you for the music, Bobby...
