Now this is a song I need to hear at least once a week, just to sing my lungs out: 'The Drifter' (1965) by Ray Pollard. I think this string-laden ballad is the perfect soundtrack for some overly-dramatic crying and screaming over your long lost girl or just to express the unbearable pain of being lonely. Another great Northern Soul-classic is Chuck Wood's 'Seven Days Is Too Long' (1967). Although this guy seems to be having problems getting his girl to talk to him, he puts his sadness aside and convinces us to get on the dancefloor with him.
